Frequently asked questions and their answers about the FoodFellow app

Questions & Answers

Who programmed the FoodFellow app?

My name is Dennis Artinger and I’m from Bavaria, Germany. Currently I am working alone on the FoodFellow app.
Since I have no help with the implementation of the app, I therefore ask you to understand that contact requests can not always be answered immediately.
I do my best, but I also have limited time.

Why are advertisements displayed in FoodFellow?

As you might imagine, programming an app is not cheap, even if I program it myself.
There is a server running in the background that wants to be paid. There are also other paid services that are needed for the app.
I don’t want to pollute the app with ads, but I have to make a little bit of money to cover the costs.

Why is FoodFellow only available on Android?

In order to save time and keep the costs of development low, an iPhone version is currently being omitted.
I definitely have iPhones in mind and would like to be able to offer this as soon as possible.
Also complicating matters is that Apple charges $99 a year to list an app in the AppStore.

What should I do if I find a mistake?

I do my best to keep the app as bug free as possible. Unfortunately, it is always possible that a bug will occur on specific smartphones.
If you find a bug, please contact me. It is always helpful to know what kind of device you own and what Android version you are using.

When will new features be released?

Since I’m developing the app on my own, I don’t want to publish an extensive list with exact data.
However, I will communicate new features and updates in Twitter. If you want to know as soon as possible what new features will be added, feel free to follow me on Twitter.

Which functions are still to come?

I have a list of features that I definitely want to add to the app and some that would be cool to add later.
But I don’t want to talk about future versions now, when the plan might change.
What I can say at least is that the recipes and products are not yet complete 😉

Do I have to be vegan or vegetarian for the app to benefit me?

No, you definitely don’t have to.
I don’t want to force you to do anything you don’t want to do with the app. But if you don’t want to limit your meat consumption or feel a deep-seated hatred towards vegan things, I advise you not to install the app 😕
The app is meant to support you if you want to eat less meat, are just starting to eat vegan or vegetarian and motivate you to pursue your goal.
I have no interest in forcing you into veganism, but will be very happy to support you if you need help with a meatless or meatless diet.

Will the app help me lose weight?

Even though it has been proven that a vegan or vegetarian diet helps you lose weight, the FoodFellow app is not designed for that.
The app is meant to help you eat more meatless and therefore healthier and more sustainable.
If you are looking for an app to lose weight, I advise you to look for another app (even though I personally don’t really believe in diets, but to each their own opinion) 😉

Is the app available in other languages?

Currently, the app is available in German and English. Other languages are currently not planned, but possible.
I would definitely need help for this, since I only know these two languages. And since there are already an enormous number of sentences and words in the app, I don’t see another language until much later in the future.

Why aren’t there more types of diets?

I am fully aware that in addition to the diets “Vegan”, “Vegetarian” and “Omnivore”, there are many other diets, such as “Pescetarian” or “Frutarian”.
If you prefer such a diet, I recommend you to make the following choice:

Your diet Choice inside the app
Frutarian Vegan
Ovo- or lacto-vegetarian Vegetarian
Pescetarian Less meat (Omnivore)
Flexitarian Less meat (Omnivore)

Please make your own decision based on your personal preference. The principles of the diets are relatively similar and can be implemented well.
Religiously motivated diets (Kosher, Halal, etc.) and diets with the intention to lose weight are not considered.
